DC & GETTYSBURG MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM
Hear Civil War history echo through the fields of Gettysburg on Close Up’s Gettysburg/Washington Program. This new programmatic offering gives students and teachers four interactive, educational, and fun-filled days in Washington, DC as part of our Capital Experience program, as well as a full day at Gettysburg National Battlefield!
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought in July 1863, and is often considered to be the turning point in the Civil War. Students will experience the history of Gettysburg first-hand with National Park Rangers who spur discussion during re-enactments of the three-day battle. Students will not only walk the footsteps of Union and Confederate soldiers; they will also explore the state-of-the-art Gettysburg Museum and Visitor’s Center. One of the highlights in the Museum is the Gettysburg Cyclorama – an exciting sound and light program based on a painting over 40-feet high that depicts ‘Pickett’s Charge’.
Of course, no visit to Gettysburg is complete without a visit to the site of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and some time to reflect on one of America’s great speeches.
Like our other Middle School Programs, our DC and Gettysburg option is available year-round. Contact us for more details.
