DC & WILLIAMSBURG MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM
Close Up’s Washington/Williamsburg program option gives teachers and students the best of both worlds: 4 action-packed days in the nation’s capital on our flagship Capital Experience Middle School Program, plus 1 day in Colonial Williamsburg! Just a 3-hour ride from DC, this city is one of America’s most historic and well-preserved examples of Colonial government and culture. Using Williamsburg as a backdrop for an in-depth discussion on colonial history, students will discuss the challenges faced by our Founding Fathers as they attempted to form a functional government in the New World.
In Williamsburg, students and teachers will explore the historic homes, gardens, and marketplaces in one of America’s oldest cities under the guidance of Williamsburg’s famed Historical Interpreters. Highlights of this exciting visit to Williamsburg include: The Governor’s Palace, historical re-enactments, lunch at Revolutionary Tavern, and visits to the Capitol, the Public Gaol (jail), and the printing press. Experiencing the history of Colonial Williamsburg gives students a visceral understanding of the roots of American democracy and ideals.
Like our other middle school programs, our Washington/Williamsburg option is available year-round. Contact us for more details!
