CAPITAL EXPERIENCE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM
On Close Up’s flagship Middle School program, students and teachers spend 4 action-packed days in Washington D.C, living and learning with their peers from around the country. As students visit the city’s stunning monuments and vistas, they learn how Washington’s historic sites reflect the events and people who have shaped our nation.
Our Washington Middle School program is more than just a tour of DC’s famous monuments and memorials. As students explore Washington in small groups, they will make new friends and see American history come to life at places such as Arlington Cemetery, the Presidential Memorials (Lincoln, Jefferson and FDR), Capitol Hill, the National Archives and the war memorials for WWII, Vietnam, and Korea. Nightly activities led by our highly-trained instructors reinforce what the students learned during the day in the city. Close Up students return home having made strong connections to our country’s history and their own roles as citizens in the modern world.
Highlights of the trip for many students include visits to the Smithsonian Museums and the ‘walking workshop’ of Capitol Hill, where they see our legislative process first-hand by visiting the Senate and/or House galleries to see live debate! The program culminates in a nighttime visit to the sites around Washington where students breathe in Washington’s ‘magnificent marble’ under the stars!
Our flagship middle school program runs weekly, starting on Sunday and ending on Wednesday evening. Some schools choose to add Williamsburg, Philadelphia, Gettysburg or New York City as program options or to customize their program.
